Hyderabad: In a key administrative reshuffle, the Telangana government has appointed IAS officer Sarfaraz Ahmad as the Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL). He replaces NVS Reddy, who has led the organization since its inception and will now serve as Advisor to the State Government on Urban Transport for a period of two years.
Sarfaraz Ahmad Gets Additional Charge as MD, HMRL
Sarfaraz Ahmad, a 2009-batch IAS officer, is currently serving as the Metropolitan Commissioner of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). He has been given full additional charge of the post of MD, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited.
His appointment comes at a crucial time as the state government is preparing to expand the Hyderabad Metro network, making his role strategically important in the next phase of urban transit development.
NVS Reddy Appointed Urban Transport Advisor
NVS Reddy, a veteran administrator and a retired officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), has been appointed as Advisor to the Telangana government for Urban Transport for a period of two years. Reddy, widely regarded as the face of the Hyderabad Metro project, played a pivotal role in its planning and execution over the past two decades.
The orders were issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, a 1991 batch IAS officer, along with other postings of IAS officers.

New Power Discom in Telangana: CM Revanth Reddy Reviews Plan
Meanwhile, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a key review meeting regarding the formation of a third power distribution company in Telangana. The proposal aims to complement the existing Southern (SPDCL) and Northern (NPDCL) Discoms.
Key Highlights of the Review
- New discom to cover agriculture, lift irrigation, rural drinking water, and urban drinking water within GHMC limits
- Cabinet approval required before moving ahead
