Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, an IAS officer of 1992 batch, has directed officials to speed up railway projects across the state by resolving pending land acquisition, approvals and infrastructure issues in coordination with South Central Railway (SCR).
The review comes as Telangana looks to strengthen rail connectivity for existing urban areas as well as emerging growth zones such as the Future City, Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Regional Ring Road (RRR).
17 Railway Projects Worth ₹50,870 Crore
At a meeting with SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava and other officials, Jaju reviewed the progress of railway projects proposed across Telangana.
Officials informed the meeting that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for 17 projects covering 2,023 km have been submitted to the Railway Board. The projects carry an estimated cost of ₹50,870 crore.
The scale of the proposed network is expected to improve connectivity and support the state’s expanding urban and economic infrastructure.

Land Acquisition and Infrastructure Bottlenecks
The meeting also examined around 21 pending issues that are affecting the progress of railway-related works.
These include:
- Land acquisition and necessary approvals
- Construction of underpasses and overbridges
- Approach roads and road widening
- Railway line doubling
Connectivity to Charlapalli Railway Station
Jaju directed district collectors and concerned departments to work jointly with SCR officials and conduct inspections at project locations.
He stressed that issues identified during these inspections should be resolved within stipulated timelines rather than allowing administrative bottlenecks to delay projects.
Focus on Future City, ORR and RRR Connectivity
The Chief Secretary also asked officials to prepare plans for expanding railway connectivity in areas linked to the Future City, ORR and RRR.
These regions are expected to play an increasingly important role in Telangana’s future urban and economic expansion. Better rail connectivity could support movement of commuters, workers and goods as development spreads beyond Hyderabad’s established urban areas.
Jaju also called for plans to expand the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) and develop additional railway terminals.
Preparing for Future Rail Requirements
The review also looked beyond immediate railway projects. Jaju directed officials to consider terminals and infrastructure that can support future transportation requirements, including potential bullet train corridors.
The focus on long-term planning is aimed at ensuring that railway infrastructure keeps pace with Telangana’s changing urban landscape and emerging economic centres.
The state government assured SCR of its support in resolving issues related to railway projects and facilitating their implementation.
Faster Coordination Key to Project Delivery
The review highlights the importance of coordination between the state administration, district authorities and the railway authorities in moving major infrastructure projects forward.
For Telangana, faster resolution of land and approval-related issues could help reduce delays in projects already under consideration while improving connectivity between Hyderabad and other parts of the state.
The emphasis on joint inspections and time-bound solutions also reflects a push towards more coordinated infrastructure delivery.
With 17 projects covering more than 2,000 km already at the DPR stage, Telangana’s railway expansion plans could significantly strengthen connectivity across the state if pending administrative and infrastructure issues are resolved efficiently.
