The central government has approved a two-year extension for Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat, a 1998-batch Gujarat cadre IPS officer, as Inspector General (IG) in the Special Protection Group (SPG). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) cleared the proposal, as per a Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) order dated April 1, 2025. Mr. Bhagat, initially appointed to the SPG in February 2019, will now continue in the role beyond May 20, 2025, marking his third extension.
In a separate decision, the ACC waived the cooling-off period for Mr. Shalin, a 2001-batch Bihar cadre IPS officer, enabling his central deputation. Currently serving as IG, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Bihar Police, with additional charge as IG, Security, Mr. Shalin’s appointment was fast-tracked after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recommended an exemption from standard IPS Tenure Policy rules. The DoPT formalized the approval on Tuesday.
