In a significant bureaucratic decision aimed at strengthening law enforcement and enhancing governance, the Tripura government ordered the transfer and posting of 43 IPS and TPS officers across various positions with immediate effect on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

This wide-scale reshuffle reflects the government’s strategic commitment to bolster public administration, law and order, and overall security infrastructure in the state. The move is also viewed as part of broader preparations for efficient service delivery and development-focused policing.

Strategic Leadership Realignment at Senior Levels

The reshuffle includes several high-ranking Indian Police Service (IPS) officers:

  • Mr. Krishnendu Chakraverty has been promoted to Inspector General of Police (IGP), Intelligence & Security, with an additional charge as Superintendent of Police (SP), Agartala.
  • Mr. Sanjay Roy has been reassigned as DIGP, Crime, Agartala.
  • Mr. Dilip Ray has been transferred to the Government of Manipur, marking an important inter-state coordination step.
  • Mr. Timir Das takes over as Commandant, BWHGBN, after his tenure as SP, MTF.

These changes are expected to bring fresh energy and insight into key departments including crime investigation, intelligence gathering, and special operations.

Strengthening Middle-Rung Command with Targeted Postings

In a strategic move to reinforce operational capabilities on the ground, several Tripura Police Service (TPS) officers have been given critical postings:

  • Mr. Kallol Roy is now SP, MTF, with an added charge of the Special Task Force (STF).
  • Mr. Kishan Kumar has been transferred to CIAT, Kachucherra, reinforcing training operations.
  • Mr. Sudip Kumar Pal has been promoted as AIGP, Establishment.
  • Ms. Piamadhuri Majumder has been appointed SP, Economic Offences (TPCB), enhancing focus on financial crimes.
  • Mr. Bikash Deb takes charge as SP, SCRB, a crucial data and record-keeping division.

These postings highlight the government’s intent to balance experience with emerging leadership, essential for holistic law enforcement.

TSR Battalions Witness Major Leadership Overhaul

A considerable number of transfers involved commandants across various Tripura State Rifles (TSR) battalions, critical to maintaining internal security:

  • Mr. Anirban Dhar Choudhury will now lead the 10th Bn TSR.
  • Mr. Narayan Roy Choudhury takes command of the 13th Bn TSR.
  • Mr. Asish Debnath has been given dual command of the 2nd and 11th Bn TSR.
  • Mr. Vanlileiana Darlong has been posted as Commandant of the 5th Bn TSR.

These adjustments will likely boost battalion readiness and operational efficiency across sensitive regions.

Young Officers Get Field Exposure Through Key Sub-Divisional Postings

The reshuffle includes the field-level appointment of several IPS probationers, enabling them to gain direct exposure and administrative training:

  • Mr. Raghu A is now SDPO, Kailashahar.
  • Mr. Rahul Balhara is SDPO, Panisagar.
  • Mr. Rohan Keshan and Mr. Shridutt Kumar have been posted as SDPOs in Teliamura and Jirania respectively.
  • Mr. Vishal Kumar, Mr. Kislay Sisodia, and Mr. Venkataram have been posted as Assistant Superintendents of Police in their respective districts.

Such ground-level exposure is critical in shaping responsive and capable future leaders within the police force.

Focus on Improved Governance and Development-Oriented Policing

The reshuffle is not just a procedural exercise but a calibrated administrative intervention to ensure robust governance, data-driven policing, and effective district-level management.

From economic offences to narcotics control and law & order management, the newly appointed officers are expected to spearhead key reforms that align with the state’s developmental objectives and citizen-centric governance.
