The Government has appointed two IAS officers as Secretaries at the Centre, effective immediately. Mr. Saurabh Garg who is an IAS officer 1991 batch and Odisha cadre has been posted as the Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. He will start this role as soon as he takes charge and continue until he retires on July 31, 2024. After that, he will stay on for an extra year on a contract basis and will also serve as Secretary of the National Statistical Commission.
Similarly, Amit Yadav who is an IAS officer of 1991 batch AGMUT cadre has been appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment. His appointment starts as soon as he takes charge and will continue until further notice. This changes the earlier order from May 27, 2024.
