New Delhi: Two mines of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) were felicitated at the Star Rating Awards Ceremony held in Mumbai, recognizing outstanding performance in safety, sustainability, and worker welfare for the year 2023-24. The awards were presented by Hon’ble Union Minister of Coal & Mines, Mr. G. Kishan Reddy, and Hon’ble Minister of State for Coal & Mines, Mr. Satish Chandra Dubey.
Award Winners
- Khairaha UG Mine – Conferred with the 5-Star Achiever Award, the highest accolade for the year.
- Bangwar UG Mine – Awarded Third Prize in the underground category.
Both mines are part of SECL’s Sohagpur Area, Madhya Pradesh.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Coal Secretary Mr. Vikram Dev Dutt and Additional Secretary Smt. Rupinder Brar. On behalf of SECL, the awards were received by:

Initiated by the Ministry of Coal, the Star Rating system aims to promote green, safe, and sustainable mining practices through technology adoption. The Coal Controller’s Organization evaluates coal and lignite mines across India based on:
- Compliance with safety standards
- Environmental care
- Resettlement and rehabilitation of project-affected families
- Welfare of workers
The awards reflect SECL’s commitment to excellence in mining operations, prioritizing sustainability, worker welfare, and adherence to regulatory standards.
