Ujjain: In a historic moment for Ujjain, the 20th All India Radio (AIR) centre of Madhya Pradesh has been inaugurated, bringing news and programmes in Malvi dialect to the city and surrounding regions. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav described the launch as a landmark event and simultaneously inaugurated development projects worth over ₹179 crore, aimed at improving infrastructure and public services in Ujjain district.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, along with several central and state government officials.
AIR Centre to Broadcast in Malvi and Promote Ujjain Culture
The newly operational AIR centre will transmit programmes from 5:55 AM to 11 PM daily, covering a wide array of content including culture, education, entertainment, and public awareness. CM Yadav emphasized that the AIR centre will enhance the city’s reputation and highlight Ujjain and Simhastha 2028 preparations to audiences across villages and towns.
“This centre will act like a ‘Devvani’ (voice of the divine) for Ujjain, spreading the glory of Mahakal and our city’s rich cultural heritage,” CM Yadav said. He noted that the city’s historical significance, association with Lord Krishna, and legacy of Emperor Vikramaditya make this launch particularly meaningful.
Development Projects Inaugurated Alongside AIR Centre
At the event, CM Yadav inaugurated several major projects, including:
- Sandipani School in Maharajwada – ₹55.27 crore
- Ujjain Railway Overbridge – ₹30.21 crore
- Road construction projects – costing over ₹50 crore
- 250-seater student hostel at Dhanvantari Ayurvedic College
- Reptile Park, Snake Park, and Hi-Tech Nursery
The CM also laid the foundation for an Ayurveda AIIMS proposal, highlighting Ujjain’s historical importance in Ayurvedic medicine.
Supporting Simhastha 2028 Preparations
With Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028 on the horizon, CM Yadav noted that the AIR centre will play a crucial role in broadcasting information to devotees and tourists, both domestically and internationally. He highlighted that the event has been recognized in UNESCO’s list, and ongoing preparations include road widening, traffic management, water screen projections at Rudrasagar, and musical fountain shows.
Additionally, Ujjain is being developed as a medical tourism hub, with construction of Medicity and other infrastructure scheduled for completion by 2027 to ensure smooth execution of Simhastha-related activities.
Youth Engagement and Regional Language Programming
Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan stated that the Ujjain AIR centre will provide training and employment opportunities for youth, focusing on broadcasting skills. The centre will promote Malwa culture, local arts, cuisine, and dialects, and news will be broadcast in Malvi, bringing local stories and traditions to a wider audience.
He noted that Madhya Pradesh now has 20 fully operational AIR centres, with Ujjain being the latest addition to strengthen regional communication and cultural preservation.

The new All India Radio Ujjain Centre is expected to serve as a major platform for cultural promotion, public awareness, and skill development, while enhancing the city’s global visibility ahead of Simhastha 2028. Ujjain, renowned for its Mahakal temple, historical legacy, and Ayurvedic heritage, will now have a dedicated voice on national radio, connecting local communities with news, education, and entertainment in their native dialect.
