Lucknow: In a significant move for education sector employees, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a substantial salary increase for Shiksha Mitras and Anudeshaks serving across the state. During a session in the state assembly on February 20, 2026, the CM stated that Shiksha Mitras’ monthly salary will increase by ₹8,000, from ₹10,000 to ₹18,000, while Anudeshaks’ salary will now be ₹17,000 per month.
Salary History and Long-Pending Demands
The last major salary hike for Shiksha Mitras was in 2017, when their monthly pay increased from ₹3,500 to ₹10,000. Despite repeated promises in election manifestos, the salary remained unchanged for the past nine years. This new increase fulfills a long-standing demand of education workers in Uttar Pradesh.

Who Will Benefit from the Salary Increase?
The latest announcement will benefit approximately 1.47 lakh Shiksha Mitras and over 28,000 Anudeshaks across the state. Analysts suggest that the move could serve as a strategic advantage for BJP in the upcoming election year, addressing long-pending demands of these education workers.
Additional Benefits: Transfers and Cashless Medical Facilities
Along with the salary hike, the UP government has also approved transfer facilities for Shiksha Mitras, allowing them to apply for postings in desired locations. Additionally, Shiksha Mitras and their families will now be entitled to cashless medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh, similar to other government teachers.
Significance of the Move
The government’s decision aims not only to enhance the financial security of Shiksha Mitras and Anudeshaks, but also to motivate education workers to improve the quality of education in the state. This comprehensive package of salary and welfare measures is expected to boost morale and productivity among the state’s teaching workforce.
