Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna, an IPS officer of 1991 batch, on Wednesday held a high-level security review meeting, emphasizing preparedness for upcoming festivals, birth anniversaries of prominent icons, and other significant events across the state. The DGP also initiated strict actions against police personnel found negligent in implementing key safety initiatives.
Coordinating for Festivals and Public Events
During the meeting, which was attended via video conferencing by all ADGs of zones, IGs/DIGs of ranges, police commissioners, and SSPs, DGP Krishna stressed the importance of close coordination with event organizers at the district level. Officers were directed to ensure advance preparations, adequate police deployment, and timely arrangements for crowd management and security.
“Coordination with organizers is critical to ensure public safety during festivals and events,” IPS Krishna said, highlighting the need for proactive engagement rather than reactive measures.
Focus on Zero Fatality District Scheme
A major portion of the review focused on the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) initiative and the City Reducing Traffic Congestion (C-RTC) campaign. The DGP assessed the performance of 487 police stations selected for the ZFD scheme.
Of these, 46 stations saw an increase in accidents, with five stations recording a significant surge.
Consequently, strict disciplinary action was taken:
- SHO Cholapur, Varanasi (Commissionerate): Deepak Kumar
- SHO Campierganj, Gorakhpur: Jitendra Singh
- SHO Chhibramau, Kannauj: Vishnukant Tiwari
- SHO Ramsanehi Ghat, Barabanki: Jagdish Prasad Shukla
- SHO Sikrara, Jaunpur: Uday Pratap Singh
These five officers were line-attached, meaning they have been removed from field duty. Preliminary inquiries were also ordered against the Traffic Circle Officers of Barabanki (Alok Kumar Pathak) and Jaunpur (Girendra Kumar Singh).
Emphasis on Media Coordination and Public Communication
DGP Krishna stressed the importance of effective communication with both print and electronic media. Officers were instructed to provide accurate, timely updates on incidents and ensure social media platforms reflect verified information. Immediate responses to important public posts were also mandated to maintain public trust and transparency.
Ensuring Timely Investigations and E-Evidence Implementation
The DGP reviewed the implementation of e-evidence systems and directed proper training for all investigating officers. He emphasized the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions for investigation timelines:
- General cases: within 60 days
- Serious cases: within 90 days
Senior officers were instructed to regularly review investigations, ensure quality charge sheets, and prioritize timely disposal.
Court Security and Emergency Preparedness
Security arrangements in court premises across districts were also evaluated. Krishna instructed officers to conduct regular checks at entry gates, ensure CCTV functionality, and maintain operational emergency response systemsto safeguard court staff, visitors, and sensitive legal proceedings.
