Those named include Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, two officers who have been promoted to the Indian Police Service (IPS), and one officer from the Provincial Police Service (PPS). According to sources, the list is expected to be submitted to the Police Commissioner’s office by Wednesday.
Land Deals and Criminal Nexus Uncovered
The SIT investigation revealed that the officers were in regular contact with known land mafias and had facilitated property deals in several areas including Chakeri, Kalyanpur, Sachendi, Naubasta, Maharajpur, Bithoor, Unnao, and Kanpur Dehat.
There have been numerous complaints regarding their alleged links with advocate Mr. Akhilesh Dubey and individuals identified as Mr. Dinu Upadhyay and Mr. Avnish. These associations have further deepened concerns about internal corruption within the force.
Police Commissioner Promises Strict Action
Police Commissioner Mr. Akhil Kumar confirmed the developments and assured the public that stringent action will be taken. “We have received the preliminary findings from the SIT and sought a full report. The process of taking disciplinary action will begin by Wednesday or Thursday,” he said.
He further added, “These officers have not only betrayed public trust but also tarnished the image of the police force. Action against those posted in the Commissionerate will begin immediately, and reports concerning gazetted officers will be forwarded to the state police headquarters.”
Mounting Concerns Over Police Integrity
This revelation comes amid growing public concern about the credibility of the city police. Previous complaints had already hinted at collusion between police personnel and local criminal networks, but the involvement of senior officers in property-related crimes has alarmed citizens and officials alike.
The SIT’s findings have once again raised urgent questions about internal accountability and the need for systemic reforms within the law enforcement agencies in Uttar Pradesh.
Authorities are now expected to initiate departmental inquiries and potential suspensions as per the severity of the involvement.
