Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major initiative to construct 76,000 new Anganwadi centers across the state, ensuring that early childhood development and nutrition services reach every child. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the use of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds and pre-fabricated building models for faster and cost-effective construction.
Currently, over 1.89 lakh Anganwadi centers are operational in Uttar Pradesh, but many lack proper infrastructure. The new construction drive aims to provide modern, fully equipped centers for children, pregnant women, and the community.
Modern Facilities Planned for Anganwadi Centers
The proposed buildings will include a range of child-friendly and community-focused facilities, such as:
- Safe drinking water and electricity connections
- Child-friendly toilets and low-height wash units
- Kitchen sheds for nutrition preparation
- Play and activity areas for children
- Health check-up rooms for pregnant women
- Rainwater harvesting systems
- Nutrition gardens (Poshan Vatikas) to promote healthy eating
These features aim to transform Anganwadi centers into holistic hubs for early childhood care, maternal health, and community nutrition.
CSR and State Support for Construction
CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized collaboration with private sector through CSR contributions to accelerate the construction process. He also assured that if required, the state government will provide additional financial support to ensure timely completion of the new centers.
The pre-fabricated model has been recommended to reduce construction time, and wherever feasible, the new Anganwadi centers will be located within the premises of primary schools, ensuring better accessibility and integration with education facilities.
Focus on Early Childhood Development and Nutrition
The initiative underlines the government’s commitment to:
- Strengthening the Anganwadi network to reach underserved areas
- Providing nutrition, health care, and pre-school education for children
- Supporting maternal health and community well-being
- Promoting safe, modern, and child-friendly learning environments
Officials say the move will also improve monitoring, supervision, and quality of services offered at Anganwadi centers across the state.
Government Vision for Holistic Childcare
This large-scale construction project aligns with UP’s broader vision to enhance child development, reduce malnutrition, and empower women as primary caregivers and Anganwadi workers. By integrating modern amenities and leveraging CSR participation, the state aims to transform Anganwadi centers into model facilities supporting education, health, and nutrition for future generations.
