Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh’s health department has registered notable enhancements in infrastructure, service delivery, and governance across districts. In line with this progress, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Brijesh Pathak visited Ghazipur district on Tuesday to inspect and strengthen operational standards at Maharishi Vishwamitra Autonomous Government Medical College and Hospital, as part of his review of local developmental works.
Deputy CM Inspects Hospital to Ensure Safety, Efficiency, and Equity
After landing at the police line via helicopter, Mr. Pathak proceeded directly to the medical college hospital. He began his inspection with the hostel area, stressing on safety arrangements in view of potential accidents. Noticing the crowd at the prescription counter and insufficient ventilation amid the heat, he admonished the Principal and ordered immediate improvements—more counters and better airflow in halls.
During his walk-through, he visited the emergency ward, OPD, prescription counter, medicine distribution room, and other inpatient wards. He personally interacted with patients to assess the quality of service and availability of amenities.
Directives to Uphold Quality Care and Institutional Discipline
Key instructions from Mr. Pathak during the visit included:
- Prohibition of outside medicines: Only hospital-issued medicines are to be prescribed
- Timely change of bedsheets following a roster system
- Accurate record-keeping in all departments
- A separate prescription counter for freedom fighters, coupled with a free medicine counter
- Ensuring cross-ventilation and air-conditioning in OPD halls to improve patient comfort
- Mandating daily hospital rounds by the Principal, accompanied by a security officer and cleaning supervisor to promptly fix deficiencies
He warned that negligence would not be tolerated.
He also stressed strengthened security in the hospital campus, especially in sensitive zones such as girls’ hostels and emergency areas.
Ensuring Full-Scale Medical Support, Diagnostics, and Ambulance Services
In his directives to hospital administration:
- Adequate deployment of doctors, nurses, and paramedics in the emergency ward
- 24-hour pathology and radiology services to serve patients without delay
- Vigilant functioning of the blood bank
- Seamless coordination of ALS ambulance services, ensuring ambulances reach patients quickly
Community Outreach and Scheme Accessibility in Slums
Mr. Pathak then visited the Bandhwan slum (Ward No. 6) in Ghazipur. He garlanded the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, interacted with residents, and distributed chocolates to children. He also engaged with beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, listening to their concerns and urging officials to ensure timely delivery of scheme benefits to all, especially the most marginalized.
Inspection of Women’s Hostel and College Infrastructure
Next, the Deputy CM reviewed the ongoing construction of a 200-bed women’s hostel, multipurpose hall, and basketball court at the Government Women’s Degree College. The estimated cost is Rs. 1,632.79 lakh. Inspecting the model, he questioned the project manager on worker strength, material quality, and construction progress. He directed the executing agency to complete the work within the stipulated timeframe.
