Dehradun: The Ministry of Finance, Government of India, has extended a special financial assistance of ₹200 crore (loan) to the state of Uttarakhand for the financial year 2025-26 under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI). According to a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office, the funds are aimed at supporting reforms in the mining sector and strengthening initiatives linked to the State Mining Readiness Index.

Focus on Mining Reforms and Sustainable Development

The financial support has been approved to implement reforms related to minor minerals and to promote transparency, technological advancement, and sustainable practices in Uttarakhand’s mining industry. The funds have been released following the guidelines laid down by the Government of India, based on proposals submitted by the Uttarakhand government and recommendations from the Ministry of Mines.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government for the support, stating that the assistance would give fresh momentum to make the mining sector more organized, environmentally sensitive, and employment-oriented. He emphasized that the initiative would not only strengthen the state’s economy but also create new opportunities for local youth, fostering sustainable and inclusive growth.

Launch of State Pragati to Monitor Development Schemes

In a parallel move to strengthen governance and monitoring of development initiatives, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan reviewed various schemes under PM Pragati at the Secretariat on Monday. He announced that the state would launch State Pragati, modeled on the central PM Pragati initiative, to ensure systematic review of key schemes.

Chief Secretary Bardhan directed that one day every month be dedicated to reviewing the progress of flagship state and central government schemes. The first meeting of State Pragati is scheduled to be held in January 2026, ensuring rigorous monitoring and timely completion of ongoing projects.

Focus on Education and Infrastructure

During the review, the Chief Secretary emphasized improving educational infrastructure under the PM SHRI scheme, instructing officials to set up computer/ICT laboratories, smart classrooms, libraries, and other modern facilities in identified schools at the earliest. All related processes, including EFC/DFC approvals and other formalities, are to be completed by March 2026.

He also directed that departmental officers be assigned clear targets and that regular monitoring be conducted to ensure projects are completed on time. The state government aims to strengthen governance, improve delivery of public services, and ensure that development projects achieve their intended impact.

Looking Ahead

The financial support for mining reforms and the launch of State Pragati reflect Uttarakhand’s commitment to transparent governance, sustainable development, and efficient implementation of key schemes. By focusing on mining sector modernization, skill development, and education infrastructure, the state is taking steps to create long-term economic growth and employment opportunities, while also ensuring that developmental initiatives are systematically monitored for maximum impact.
