Dehradun: Uttarakhand is significantly expanding its traditional healthcare infrastructure as part of a broader strategy to promote AYUSH-based medical services and wellness tourism.
Speaking at a recent event in Rishikesh, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that more than 300 Ayushman Arogya Kendras are now operational across the state. These centers are aimed at improving access to traditional and preventive healthcare services, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions.
The initiative reflects the state government’s focus on strengthening healthcare systems rooted in traditional medicine while ensuring wider public access.
Digital Healthcare Services Through e-Sanjeevani
Along with physical healthcare centers, the government is also integrating digital healthcare solutions to reach more citizens.
According to the Chief Minister, over 70 AYUSH specialists are providing consultations through the e-Sanjeevani portal. This platform enables patients to receive medical advice remotely, reducing the need for travel and improving access to expert consultations.
The digital initiative is particularly beneficial for residents in remote and hilly areas of Uttarakhand, where access to specialized healthcare services can often be limited.
AYUSH Policy to Boost Research, Manufacturing and Education
The state government is implementing the Uttarakhand AYUSH Policy to strengthen multiple sectors linked to traditional medicine.
Under this policy, the government aims to promote:
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing related to traditional medicines
- Research and innovation in AYUSH systems
- Education and training institutes for traditional healthcare
- Wellness and therapeutic tourism
Officials believe the policy will help position Uttarakhand as a major hub for traditional medicine and wellness services in India.
Plans for Spiritual Economic Zones
Another key initiative highlighted by the Chief Minister is the plan to establish “Spiritual Economic Zones” across administrative divisions in the state.
These zones are expected to promote sectors such as:
- Ayurveda
- Naturopathy
- Yoga
- Spiritual and wellness tourism
The initiative aims to combine healthcare, tourism, and spiritual experiences, creating new economic opportunities while preserving traditional knowledge systems.
Vision to Make Uttarakhand a Global Wellness Destination
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized that the government is committed to integrating traditional healing systems with modern technology and infrastructure.
With the expansion of Ayushman Arogya Kendras, digital consultations, and policy support for AYUSH industries, the state aims to transform Uttarakhand into a global destination for wellness, holistic healthcare, and spiritual tourism.
The government believes these initiatives will not only improve healthcare access for citizens but also strengthen the state’s economy through the growing wellness and traditional medicine sectors.
