Dehradun: Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, on Monday distributed appointment letters to 63 newly selected sanitation inspectors under the Urban Development Department. The event was held at the Chief Servant Sadan in the Chief Minister’s Camp Office.
During the program, the Chief Minister also virtually laid the foundation stone for a new Directorate of Urban Development building, which will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹62 crore. Additionally, he flagged off waste disposal vehicles to strengthen urban sanitation services.
Government Focused on Employment Generation
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is continuously working towards providing employment opportunities to youth. He stated that nearly 30,000 government jobs have been provided over the past four years.
Congratulating the newly appointed sanitation inspectors, he highlighted that they are stepping into a new phase of responsibility and must perform their duties with dedication and integrity.
Growth in Urban Local Bodies
The Chief Minister noted significant growth in urban governance since the formation of the state. He said that Uttarakhand earlier had only 63 urban local bodies, which has now expanded to 108, including:
- 11 Municipal Corporations
- 46 Municipal Councils
- 51 Nagar Panchayats
He stressed that cities have become key centers for development and economic activity, making their cleanliness, organization, and modernization essential.
Strengthening Urban Governance and Infrastructure
Dhami highlighted the crucial role of urban local bodies in managing waste and providing essential services. He described sanitation inspectors as the backbone of this system.
Over the past five years, the government has also appointed:
- 63 Executive Officers
- 22 Tax and Revenue Inspectors
- 32 Junior Engineers
The addition of 63 sanitation inspectors is expected to further strengthen urban governance.
Preparations for Char Dham Yatra and Kumbh 2027
The Chief Minister pointed out that Uttarakhand is a major hub for spirituality and tourism, attracting millions of devotees every year. With the upcoming Char Dham Yatra and the Kumbh Mela scheduled for 2027, maintaining cleanliness and efficient urban management is crucial.
Urban Development Boosted Through Key Schemes
The state government is improving urban infrastructure through several flagship schemes, including:
- Swachh Bharat Mission
- Smart City Mission
- Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Yojana
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
- AMRUT Mission
Additionally, modern waste management systems are being implemented. The government has also introduced 30 electric buses in urban areas and established EV charging stations at 11 locations.
