Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed a state-wide crackdown on individuals who have illegally obtained government identification documents such as ration cards, Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, and Ayushman Bharat cards. In a strong message to district administrations, the Chief Minister instructed all District Magistrates (DMs) to identify and take action against such individuals and those involved in the creation of forged documents.
Over 9,000 Ineligible Ration Cards Cancelled
Acting promptly on the CM’s instructions, district officials have launched an aggressive verification campaign, resulting in the cancellation of over 9,000 ineligible ration cards so far. District-wise data shows:
- 5,307 cards cancelled in Bageshwar
- 3,332 in Dehradun
- 961 in Pauri
The Chief Minister emphasised that accurate identification of ration card holders is vital to ensure that government welfare schemes reach the genuine and deserving beneficiaries.
Extensive Document Verification in Progress
A rigorous verification drive is now underway across all districts. DMs have been tasked with cross-checking the validity of ration cards, Aadhaar, voter IDs, and Ayushman Bharat cards. The campaign aims not only to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries but also to enhance transparency and accountability in the delivery of public services.
CM Dhami Holds Virtual Review Meeting Amid Weather Alerts
Earlier on the same day, Mr. Dhami held a virtual meeting with district magistrates to assess both the progress of ongoing development projects and readiness to deal with any emergencies, in light of the orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Weather Alert and School Closures in Dehradun
The IMD has issued a three-day orange alert for Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pauri Garhwal, and Udham Singh Nagar. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
In response, the Dehradun district administration has ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 12 and Anganwadi centres on August 4, 2025. The alert, effective from the evening of August 3, is also echoed by the National Disaster Alert Portal, urging vigilance in vulnerable zones.
Focus on Transparency and Preparedness
Chief Minister Mr. Dhami reiterated the dual focus of his government: cracking down on fraud in public welfare schemes and ensuring disaster preparedness in the wake of the monsoon season. He said that swift action, coordination, and accountability at the district level will be key to both protecting public resources and safeguarding lives.
