Dehradun: Under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand Housing and Development Council has taken major decisions to accelerate planned urban development across the state.
The decisions were finalized during a high-level review meeting chaired by Housing Secretary and Housing Commissioner Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar. The meeting focused on improving quality, transparency, and timely implementation of housing projects while ensuring better civic amenities for residents.
Modern Community Centres Planned in Key Cities
The Housing Council has proposed the development of modern community centres in major cities including:
- Dehradun
- Rishikesh
- Roorkee
- Kashipur
These centres will be designed to host weddings, social gatherings, and public events at affordable rates, offering relief to middle- and lower-income families who otherwise rely on expensive private banquet halls.
Officials stated that the initiative will promote social engagement while ensuring accessible infrastructure for citizens.

Planned Residential Colonies with Modern Infrastructure
The review meeting emphasized accelerating the allotment process of plots and housing units in:
- Dehradun
- Rishikesh
- Haridwar
- Roorkee
- Kashipur
- Jaspur
- Almora
Upcoming residential colonies will feature:
- Wide roads
- Green parks
- Community centres
- Essential civic amenities
The objective is to provide citizens with safe, well-planned, and organized housing environments, while also boosting state revenue.
Srinagar and Jaspur Housing Projects Get Priority
The Council has decided to prioritize the development of housing schemes in:
- Srinagar
- Jaspur
These projects will include modern residential infrastructure and improved facilities. Officials have been directed to prepare detailed plans and ensure time-bound execution.
Land Pooling Model to Ensure Planned Development
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on implementing a land pooling model in Uttarakhand, similar to the system adopted by the Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Council.
Under this model:
- Landowners will participate in large-scale development projects
- Unauthorized plotting will be curbed
- Transparent and planned urban expansion will be promoted
- Citizens will benefit from improved infrastructure
The model is expected to strengthen participatory and balanced urban growth across the state.

Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar emphasized that the Council’s goal is not just constructing houses but ensuring dignified living standards with modern amenities.
