Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the Uttarakhand government is working towards establishing a medical college in every district to ensure that quality healthcare facilities are available locally. The announcement came during the distribution of appointment letters to 220 newly recruited medical officers under the ‘Uttarakhand Medical Health Empowerment Campaign’ on August 17, 2025.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the vision is to make healthcare services more accessible to the people of the hill state by bringing advanced treatment closer to their homes and reducing the dependence on outside medical institutions.
Expanding Access Through Cashless Treatment
Highlighting the progress made in public healthcare, Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami informed that over 11 lakh patients in Uttarakhand have availed cashless treatment facilities worth more than Rs. 21 crore. Specialized facilities have been made available, with cardiology and neurology services in Srinagar and cancer treatment in Haldwani.
The Chief Minister further noted that emergency medical services have also been enhanced through the use of helicopters, enabling healthcare delivery to remote and disaster-affected areas. This was particularly demonstrated during the recent Dharauli disaster, where patients were evacuated and treated promptly.
Modernization and Technological Support
The state’s healthcare system has been undergoing rapid modernization, including the strengthening of health centers, recruitment of paramedical staff, and expansion of telemedicine services. These initiatives aim to overcome the geographical challenges of the Himalayan state and ensure that patients in rural and remote areas receive timely medical advice and treatment.
Doctors as Health Guardians of Devbhoomi
Appealing to the newly recruited doctors, Mr. Dhami said, “You are not just doctors but also the health guards of Devbhoomi. All of you have to work with full dedication and service spirit to make the state’s medical treatment accessible to the people and take it to new heights.”
By combining institutional expansion with technological integration and human resource empowerment, Uttarakhand is positioning itself to deliver inclusive and modern healthcare services for its citizens.
