Dehradun: In a major move aimed at boosting tourism, mobility, and economic growth, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired the first board meeting with departments, stakeholders, and PPP companies regarding the development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of ropeway projects across the state.
During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted of ongoing and proposed ropeway projects in various districts. District Magistrates also provided updates on the current status and progress of the projects.
Ropeway Projects Crucial for Economy, Tourism and Mobility
The Chief Secretary described ropeway projects as highly significant for Uttarakhand’s economy, tourism sector, mobility solutions, and overall development. He directed officials to accelerate the pace of work and ensure timely execution.
He emphasized that processes such as feasibility and viability studies should be presented at the initial stage before a High-Power Committee to enable comprehensive discussions and faster decision-making.
With Uttarakhand being a major pilgrimage and tourist destination, ropeways are expected to reduce road congestion, improve accessibility in hilly terrain, and provide eco-friendly transport alternatives.
Focus on PPP Mode and Timely Approvals
The Chief Secretary instructed officials to expedite all technical, financial, and administrative approvals related to ropeway projects being developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
He stressed adherence to fixed timelines and completion of all formalities without unnecessary delays to ensure swift project implementation.
Dehradun–Mussoorie Ropeway Project Under Review
Taking serious note of delays in the proposed Dehradun–Mussoorie Ropeway Project, he issued clear directions to speed up progress.
The ropeway connecting Dehradun and Mussoorie is considered a key infrastructure initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing tourist experience in the popular hill destination.
Government Aims for Integrated Development
The Uttarakhand government views ropeway connectivity as a transformative step toward strengthening last-mile connectivity, promoting sustainable tourism, and enhancing economic opportunities in remote areas.
With renewed administrative focus and coordinated efforts between departments and private partners, the state aims to fast-track ropeway infrastructure projects and position Uttarakhand as a model for modern hill-state mobility solutions.
