Visakhapatnam: As part of the 127th training programme for newly-inducted Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Saturday organized an insightful study tour, offering participants an in-depth look at the port’s cutting-edge infrastructure and maritime operations.
During the visit, VPA’s Heads of Departments presented detailed briefings on the port’s cargo handling capabilities, key developmental projects, notable achievements, and its ambitious target to scale up to 90 million metric tonnes (MMT) in cargo throughput. This goal builds on the port’s record-breaking performance in the previous financial year.
The officers were also taken on a guided tour within the port’s water limits, allowing them to observe the operational excellence and robust maritime activities that position VPA as a strategic asset in India’s logistics and trade network.
Senior officials underscored the port’s crucial role in supporting national economic growth. The visit, coordinated by VPA Secretary T. Venu Gopal, forms part of a broader initiative to familiarize new IAS officers with major infrastructure assets and the complex ecosystems that underpin the nation’s development.
