Puran Kumar, a senior IPS officer of the 2001 batch and Additional Director General of Police in Haryana, tragically died by suicide at his official residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh on Tuesday. The shocking incident has caused widespread concern within the Haryana Police and administrative departments.
At the time of the incident, his wife, Amneet P Kumar, a 2001 batch Haryana cadre IAS officer, was accompanying Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on an official tour to Japan. She is expected to return to India on the morning of October 8 after cutting short her visit due to the tragic news.

Born on October 27, 1977, in Punjab, Amneet Kumar is one of Haryana’s prominent IAS officers. She holds a Master’s degree in History from Panjab University and a PhD in Health Economics from IIT Madras.
Throughout her career, she has served in key roles across multiple departments, including Health, Finance, Industrial Development, and Women and Child Development.
