Raipur: The 2006 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Raju Agasimani has been appointed as the Member Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB), following the resignation of his batchmate Arun Prasad in June this year. The state government issued the official appointment order on Thursday, announcing that the decision is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
Key Appointment in Environmental Governance
Mr Agasimani brings to the role extensive experience in forest management, wildlife conservation, and sustainable development. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Raipur Circle, and Chief Conservator of Forests, Working Plan Division, Raipur.
The Member Secretary position at CECB plays a crucial role in implementing environmental regulations, monitoring industrial compliance, and driving ecological conservation across Chhattisgarh — a state with significant forest and mineral wealth.

A Background Rooted in Forestry and Sustainability
Born on June 1, 1978, in Karnataka, Agasimani has dedicated his career to forestry and environmental stewardship. He is known for his leadership in sustainable forest management and community-based livelihood enhancement initiatives, especially during his tenure in the Dhamtari Forest Division.
Notably, he participated in an exposure visit for IFS officers focused on Soil Moisture Conservation (SMC) practices and the functioning of the Dugli Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) — a centre supporting tribal entrepreneurship through forest-based products.
Contributions to Wildlife Conservation
In addition to his work in forest policy and rural livelihoods, Agasimani has also played a hands-on role in wildlife rescue and conservation. A key instance was his involvement in the tracking and rehabilitation of ‘Jatayu’, a Himalayan Griffon vulture that was successfully released back into the wild following a rescue operation. His involvement in such initiatives highlights his holistic approach to conservation — blending ecological science with compassionate fieldwork.
