Andhra Pradesh: Retired IAS officer Praveen Prakash (IAS: 1994 batch, Andhra Pradesh cadre) has alleged that he is facing criminal intimidation under the current TDP government led by N. Chandrababu Naidu. Mr Prakash, who voluntarily retired shortly after the TDP government assumed office in 2024, claims he is being targeted due to his close association with the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government.
Threats Linked to Voluntary Retirement Withdrawal
Prakash revealed that he received threatening messages and calls when he contemplated withdrawing his Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) application. According to him:
He was warned of dire consequences if he tried to re-enter government service.
He reported the threats to the then Chief Secretary, Neerabh Kumar Prasad, who advised him against rescinding the VRS, stating that the government would likely reject the request even if submitted.
He did not disclose the identities of those issuing the threats.

Reason for Voluntary Retirement
Prakash said his troubles began soon after the TDP government took charge in 2024 –
- He was not given any posting, leaving him idle.
- Perceived as a pro-YSRCP officer, he lost the confidence of the Chief Minister.
- Feeling sidelined, he opted for voluntary retirement within 21 days of being left without work.
He explained, “I thought there was no point in sitting idle and taking a salary without doing any work.”
Family Concerns and Attempt to Reconsider VRS
Prakash later considered reversing his VRS decision because his family was under severe emotional stress due to his retirement. However, his attempt to re-enter service allegedly triggered threats against him, forcing him to abandon the idea.
