Lucknow: In a shocking incident that has left both locals and law enforcement stunned, the home of IPS officer Yamuna Prasad in Lucknow’s upscale Vikas Nagar was burgled, with thieves looting not just cash and valuables but even bathroom sinks.
The incident has sparked concern about residential security in so-called ‘safe’ areas of the city. What’s even more surprising is that the officer whose house was robbed is none other than Yamuna Prasad, the IPS officer known for arresting mafia don Mukhtar Ansari from Punjab in a luxury ambulance.
Burglary Discovered by Officer’s Relative
Yamuna Prasad is currently posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Noida, and his Lucknow residence was being looked after by his brother-in-law, Asit Siddharth.
According to the complaint lodged with the Vikas Nagar Police Station, Asit returned to the house on the evening of September 22 and found the electricity cut off. Thinking it was a power issue, he informed the electricity department.
However, the next day, around 12:30 AM, an electricity worker arrived and opened the locked house. What they found inside left them speechless.

How the Theft Happened
- Thieves cut the iron grill of the rear window to enter the house.
- Rooms and cupboards were completely ransacked.
- Cash, silverware, electronics, and even household fixtures were stolen.
Items stolen include:
- ₹50,000 in cash
- 10 silver coins
- 2 silver glasses and 2 bowls
- 3 wristwatches
- 2 wall clocks
- Approximately 20 bathroom sinks
- 20 storage baskets
- Several gift items
The burglars methodically cleared out valuables and even carried away large and unexpected items — the theft of 20 bathroom sinks has especially left the neighborhood in disbelief.
Police Launch Investigation, Locals Fearful
The Vikas Nagar Police have filed an FIR and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned for any leads.
A police official stated,
“The thieves appear to have planned the burglary in advance. Given the extent and type of items stolen, including bulky household items, it’s possible a vehicle was used. We are reviewing footage and hope to make arrests soon.”
This incident has raised serious questions about security in Vikas Nagar, one of the more prominent residential areas in Lucknow. Locals are now worried that if even an IPS officer’s home can be targeted, no one is truly safe.
