New Delhi: Senior IPS officer Yogesh Gupta (IPS:1993:KL) has finally been empanelled for Director General equivalent posts at the Centre, with the approval granted by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Tuesday.
Currently serving as Director General of Police, Fire and Rescue Service, Civil Defence and Home Guards in Kerala, Gupta becomes eligible for DG-level appointments in the central government after a prolonged wait that had drawn attention within bureaucratic circles.
Delayed Empanelment After Batchmates Moved Ahead
Gupta’s empanelment comes after several officers of his 1993 IPS batch had already been cleared earlier.
In June 2024, 18 officers of the same batch were empanelled for Director General rank, followed by six more officers in July 2025. Gupta’s name was absent from both lists, making his delayed clearance notable.
Returned to Kerala After Enforcement Directorate Posting
Gupta returned to the Kerala cadre in 2021 after serving as Special Director in Enforcement Directorate.
After his return, he underwent multiple postings within the state administration.
Tribunal Intervention Over Vigilance Clearance
In 2025, Gupta approached the Central Administrative Tribunal after vigilance clearance required for central deputation was not issued by the Kerala government despite repeated reminders from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Kochi Bench of the tribunal, in its September 30, 2025 order, directed the state government to issue the clearance within five days, observing that repeated communications from the Centre had remained unattended.
That development had become significant in the context of his pending empanelment.
Now Eligible for DG-Level Central Assignments
With empanelment now approved, Gupta becomes eligible for appointment to Director General equivalent posts in central organisations.
His empanelment closes a prolonged administrative chapter that had seen both cadre-level and legal developments.
Kanwardeep Kaur’s Inter-Cadre Deputation Extended
Meanwhile, the Centre has also extended the inter-cadre deputation of Kanwardeep Kaur (IPS:2013:PB) from Punjab cadre to AGMUT cadre (Chandigarh segment).
Her deputation has been extended by one year beyond March 8, 2026.
