₹292 Crore Railway Overbridge to Ease Traffic Congestion

One of the major projects is a two-lane railway overbridge costing more than ₹292 crore on National Highway 730.

The proposed overbridge will be constructed at level crossing number 136 between Balrampur and Jharkhandi railway stations on the Gonda–Balrampur railway section.

The project is expected to address traffic congestion caused by the frequent closure of the railway crossing.

Expected benefits include:

  • Reduced waiting time for commuters when the railway gate is closed.
  • Smoother movement of passenger vehicles and goods carriers.
  • Improved connectivity between Balrampur, Shravasti and Bahraich.
  • Easier movement of vehicles along the national highway.

The project is expected to improve road connectivity and reduce delays for people travelling between neighbouring districts.

Village Roads and Bridges to Improve Rural Connectivity

Several road and bridge projects are planned to connect villages with major roads and improve access to markets and essential services.

The main works include:

  • Construction and strengthening of the Ahirandih, Pratappurwa–Semrahna and Ramwapur–Gulralideeh link roads.
  • Construction of an RCC box culvert in the Chorghata area over the Kuano River.
  • Construction of a minor bridge and approach road near the Gopiyapur drain on the Katra Sonar district road.
  • Widening and strengthening of the remaining section of the Utraula–Chandanpur road at a cost of more than ₹75 crore.

These projects are expected to make travel easier, particularly during the rainy season when waterlogging and poor road conditions can disrupt movement.

Improved road connectivity will also help farmers transport agricultural produce to markets and enable residents of rural areas to access schools, hospitals and other essential services more conveniently.

More Than ₹176 Crore for Drinking Water and Sewerage Infrastructure

Balrampur’s urban infrastructure is also receiving a major boost through investments in sewerage management and drinking water supply.

Two important projects were dedicated to the public:

  • Sewerage system and sewage treatment plant: The first phase, developed at a cost of more than ₹123 crore, was inaugurated in the Balrampur municipal area.
  • Drinking water restructuring scheme: A project costing more than ₹53 crore was also inaugurated to strengthen the city’s water supply system.

The sewerage project is expected to improve wastewater collection, treatment and disposal. Meanwhile, the drinking water scheme aims to improve water supply arrangements for residents.

Together, these projects represent an investment of more than ₹176 crore in essential urban services.

Four-Lane Road to Maa Pateshwari University Inaugurated

Education and institutional infrastructure are also part of the development package.

A four-lane road leading to Maa Pateshwari University was inaugurated at a cost of more than ₹26 crore. The road is expected to improve access to the university for students, staff and visitors.

Other projects related to education and public infrastructure include:

  • Integrated special secondary school: A new building will be constructed at a cost of more than ₹24 crore.
  • District Institute of Rural Development: Around ₹30 crore will be spent on residential and non-residential buildings.
  • Police transit hostel: An eight-storey, or G+8, transit hostel built at a cost of more than ₹16 crore was inaugurated at the police lines.

These projects are intended to strengthen educational facilities, administrative infrastructure and accommodation for police personnel.

Irrigation and Flood Protection Projects to Benefit Residents

The development package also includes projects related to irrigation, water management and flood protection.

Works along the Rapti and Budhi Rapti rivers have been undertaken to help protect vulnerable areas from flooding. Irrigation and canal-related projects are also expected to strengthen water management and support agricultural activities.

Another important initiative concerns families affected by river erosion.

Under the Chief Minister’s Housing Scheme, ‘Maa Pateshwari Villa’ has been constructed for 72 families affected by river erosion. The housing project aims to provide these families with safer accommodation.

The initiatives are expected to address infrastructure needs while supporting residents in areas vulnerable to flooding and erosion.

Public Works Department Accounts for 39 Projects

The 78 development projects cover several departments, with the Public Works Department and the Irrigation and Water Resources Department accounting for the largest share.

The departmental distribution is as follows:

  • Public Works Department: 39 projects.
  • Irrigation and Water Resources Department: 23 projects.
  • Urban Development Department: 5 projects.
  • Home Department: 3 projects.
  • Basic Education Department: 3 projects.
  • Minority Welfare Department: 2 projects.
  • Secondary Education Department: 1 project.
  • Tourism Department: 1 project.
  • Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities: 1 project.

The distribution reflects a strong focus on roads, bridges and irrigation, alongside improvements in urban services, education, public safety and social infrastructure.

Yogi Adityanath Distributes Benefits Under Welfare Schemes

During the programme, Yogi Adityanath also handed over symbolic cheques, laptops and certificates to beneficiaries of various government welfare schemes.

He extended congratulations to the beneficiaries and offered greetings for Sharadiya Navratri.

The chief minister reiterated that the state government would provide the resources required for Balrampur’s development. He said projects and schemes needed by the district’s youth, farmers, traders and women would receive support from the state government.

The ₹803.19 crore package is expected to strengthen Balrampur’s transport links, urban infrastructure, educational facilities and rural development, with the projects covering both immediate public needs and longer-term infrastructure improvements.
