Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today distributed allotment letters for flats constructed for 72 economically weaker families on land freed from mafia control in Lucknow. The event also marked the inauguration of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Residential Scheme.
A Strong Message Against Land Mafia
Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi stated that the program sends a strong message: if a mafia or criminal occupies land belonging to the poor, traders, public property, or government land, they will face consequences, just as had happened previously in Prayagraj. “It is my privilege to participate in this program on Kartik Purnima, handing over homes to beneficiaries on land reclaimed from a notorious mafia,” he said, extending greetings to the citizens and beneficiaries.
The CM further warned land mafias in unequivocal terms: any encroachment on poor citizens’ land or public property will have repercussions. He highlighted the state government’s achievements, noting that in the past 8.5 years, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, around 6 million economically weaker families in Uttar Pradesh have received housing.

Uttar Pradesh Becomes a Land of Opportunities
CM Yogi emphasized that Uttar Pradesh has transformed into a state full of opportunities. “This is the same state where riots used to occur, curfews were imposed before festivals, disorder prevailed, women felt unsafe, and entrepreneurs avoided investment. Today, not only India but the world’s leading entrepreneurs are eager to invest in Uttar Pradesh,” he said.
Mafia Influence Will No Longer Prevail
While handing over the flats, CM Yogi also targeted political opponents indirectly, asserting that those who once supported mafia activities and exploited the poor will no longer find space in Uttar Pradesh. “The mentality of mafia will never prosper in our state again,” he added.
Modern Housing for Economically Weaker Families
The reclaimed land is located in the posh Dalibag area of Lucknow, which was previously under mafia control. The government has developed it under the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Residential Scheme. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) constructed three ground-plus-three-storey blocks on approximately 2,322 square meters of land. Each flat has a carpet area of 36.65 square meters. While the market value of these flats is nearly ₹1 crore, the selected families received them at just ₹10.70 lakh.

Joy and Gratitude Among Beneficiaries
The 72 families, chosen through a lottery conducted at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, received keys directly from CM Yogi. Beneficiaries expressed immense joy and gratitude, with many becoming emotional during the ceremony. One woman said, “CM Sahab has given us a new life. Where mafia once ruled, now we have our own home.” The CM also distributed chocolates to children and encouraged them to enjoy their new homes.
