Japan: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Japan is being hailed as a milestone in advancing modern development initiatives in the state. The trip has strengthened international partnerships and highlighted UP’s proactive governance model aimed at accelerating economic growth and technological adoption.
Landmark MoU on Green Hydrogen Signed
During the visit, the UP government signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture focusing on green hydrogen technology. The agreement will enable Indian students from UP’s premier technical institutes to receive high-level training in Japan.
The technology will be implemented in UP’s industrial, public transport, and energy sectors, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Net Zero goals. CM Yogi highlighted that the delegation participated in several G2G (Government-to-Government) and G2B (Government-to-Business) meetings in Tokyo, facilitated by the Indian Embassy, to engage with Japanese industry leaders.

Focus on Technology and Future Sectors
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of robotics as a future technology. The UP government has allocated budget provisions to establish a Center of Excellence for Robotics, aiming to integrate innovation into industry and education.
He noted that cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Yamanashi is expected to strengthen India-Japan relations, enhance energy self-reliance, and make advanced technology accessible to the general public.
Showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s Strengths to the World
CM Yogi outlined UP’s unique strengths, including a population of approximately 25 crore, fertile land, abundant water resources, skilled human capital, and a rich spiritual-cultural heritage. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP has significantly improved per capita income and tripled its economy over the past nine years, making it one of India’s fastest-growing states.
From Reactive to Proactive Governance
The Chief Minister stressed that UP has transitioned from a reactive governance model to a proactive approach, focusing on attracting investment, facilitating industries, adopting new technologies, and expanding global partnerships. This proactive stance was central to the delegation’s success in Japan.
Strengthening Ties with Yamanashi Prefecture
CM Yogi expressed gratitude to the Governor of Yamanashi, Kotaro Nagasaki, and the Vice Governor Junichi Ishidra for hosting the UP delegation. The visit facilitated direct interaction with industry leaders and insights into Japan’s best practices.
He recalled that the Governor of Yamanashi had visited UP in December 2024, and continuous dialogue and exchanges have now resulted in a robust collaboration.

The delegation included UP Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’, Indian Ambassador to Japan Nagama Malik, and senior officials from UP government.
