Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the book “Early North India and Its Coins” at the Chief Minister’s residence auditorium, emphasizing the importance of India’s democratic consciousness, historical unity, and millennia-old cultural heritage. The book, published by the Hinduja Foundation, documents ancient coins and historical evidence, providing a factual response to long-standing Western misrepresentations of Indian history.
Celebrating India’s Democratic Legacy
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said India has always prioritized evidence linked to its sanatan (eternal) culture and history. He described India as the mother of democracy, citing Vaisali as one of the world’s earliest republics. Referring to the G20 Summit, he highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks that India is not only the largest democracy in the world but also its birthplace.
He emphasized that the book provides a documented account of India’s democratic values, unity, and cultural heritage, countering decades of Western propaganda. The Chief Minister also highlighted India’s role in giving equal opportunities to all communities, religions, and nations, reflecting the timeless principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).
Authenticity of History Preserved in Coins
The Chief Minister explained that the book explores coins from Ayodhya, Mathura, Kaushambi, Kashi, and Panchal, made of copper, silver, and mixed metals. These coins reflect the historical, geographical, and trade-related conditions of the regions and serve as crucial evidence of India’s authentic history. He noted that while India has always relied on facts and evidence, Western narratives have often attempted to distort history and claim undue contributions to democracy.
Scientific Tradition and Economic Heritage
Yogi Adityanath also highlighted India’s ancient scientific and measurement systems, including units like tola and masha, which are still in use, especially for weighing metals and gold. He described the Maurya period as India’s golden age, when the country contributed 46% to the global economy, which remained 24% until the 15th century. Colonial exploitation reduced this to 1.5–2% at the time of independence. Today, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy.
Vision 2047 and Pride in Heritage
The Chief Minister spoke about Vision 2047, highlighting its principles and pledges to connect every Indian with national heritage. Restoration projects such as the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya and Kashi Vishwanath Dham reflect the government’s commitment to preserving India’s sanatan legacy.
Historical Validation of Legends
Professor Devendra Handa, the author of the book, highlighted historical evidence validating ancient Indian stories. For example, coins preserved in the British Museum bearing the inscription “Savitrī Putra Janapadas” confirm that the legend of Savitrī-Satyavan is grounded in real historical events. Coins from rulers such as Madra Raja and Porus’ descendants further challenge conventional historical narratives.
Hinduja Foundation’s Research Initiative
Ashok Hinduja of the Hinduja Group stressed the importance of presenting India’s sanatan culture and heritage through scientific research and evidence. He appreciated Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership and reaffirmed the group’s confidence in future investments in Uttar Pradesh. The event was attended by Hinduja Foundation trustees, Minister of Tourism and Culture Jai Veer Singh, the author Prof. Devendra Handa, and senior members of the Hinduja family.
About the Book

It underscores India’s millennia-old legacy and provides tangible evidence countering decades of misrepresentation in global historiography.
