RailTel Secures MEA-Funded Greenfield Data Centre Project in Ethiopia, Expands Global Digital Footprint

New Delhi: Navratna CPSE RailTel Corporation of India Ltd (RailTel) has secured a prestigious overseas work order from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to establish a greenfield Data Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The project represents a significant milestone in RailTel’s international expansion and India’s support for Ethiopia’s Digital Transformation Strategy.

Project Scope and Timeline

The project entails the development of a state-of-the-art Data Centre for Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The work is scheduled to be completed within one year, followed by a three-year period of operation and maintenance support post-commissioning. This initiative is expected to enhance Ethiopia’s digital infrastructure and facilitate secure, efficient data management for its government operations.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties through Digital Cooperation

Commenting on the achievement, RailTel Chairman and Managing Director Sanjai Kumar said the company is committed to delivering the project with the highest standards of professionalism, quality, and reliability. He emphasized that the project will further strengthen India–Ethiopia bilateral ties through digital cooperation, reflecting India’s growing role in supporting technology-driven development in Africa.

RailTel’s International Expansion

The Ethiopia Data Centre project adds to RailTel’s growing international portfolio. The company formally entered overseas markets in 2024 and has since executed several MEA-funded projects, including the installation of electronic LED scoreboards in Jamaica and the supply of Make-in-India laptops for school students in Trinidad and Tobago. RailTel is actively exploring new opportunities across Africa, the Middle East, South-East Asia, and other regions, positioning itself as a trusted global digital infrastructure partner for the Global South.
