Lakhimpur Kheri: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday visited Palia Kalan’s Chandan Chauk area and distributed land ownership certificates to thousands of Tharu tribal families and other river erosion-affected households, marking a major step in land rights and rehabilitation efforts.
The event also saw the launch and foundation laying of development projects worth over ₹817 crore in the district.
Land Rights to 4,356 Tharu Families After Decades of Wait
In a landmark decision, the Chief Minister handed over Bhumik Adhikar Patra to 4,356 Tharu families across 34 villages in the Palia tehsil.
These families had been using 538 hectares of land since 1976 without ownership rights. With this decision, they have now been granted full legal ownership, ending a decades-long wait.

Relief for 2,350 River Erosion-Affected Families
Along with the Tharu community, 2,350 families affected by river-induced land erosion in eastern Uttar Pradesh were also provided land rights under the rehabilitation initiative.
Officials said the move aims to secure long-term housing stability for vulnerable families displaced due to natural calamities.
₹817 Crore Development Projects Launched
The Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹817 crore, covering key sectors such as:
- Roads and connectivity
- Education infrastructure
- Healthcare facilities
- Rural development projects
These initiatives are aimed at accelerating regional growth and improving public services in border districts near Nepal.

CM Emphasises “Governance with Sensitivity”
Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi said that meaningful governance is possible only when it is driven by sensitivity and reaches every section of society without discrimination.
He cited Sanskrit verses to highlight that the true purpose of governance is public welfare and happiness.
Sharp Attack on Previous Governments
The Chief Minister launched a strong attack on previous governments, accusing them of neglecting rural and tribal communities and concentrating development in limited regions.
He said that earlier regimes failed to protect the rights of marginalized families, while the current administration is working to correct historical injustices.
“Double Engine Government Delivering Justice,” Says CM
CM Yogi said that the “double engine government” has restored rights, dignity, and identity to communities that were long ignored.
He added that decades of uncertainty for Tharu families have finally ended with formal land ownership rights.

Rehabilitation and Housing for Displaced Families
The programme also included rehabilitation measures for displaced families, including beneficiaries of the Chief Minister’s rural housing scheme and migrants from affected regions.
Officials said housing support and land rights together aim to ensure secure and dignified living conditions for all beneficiaries.
Push for Inclusive Development and Land Justice
The Lakhimpur Kheri initiative highlights the government’s focus on land rights, tribal welfare, and large-scale infrastructure development. Officials said the programme represents a significant step toward inclusive governance and long-term rural transformation.
