Women from all walks of life draped in various kinds of sarees walked for fitness in Diamond City Surat in Gujarat recently.
The idea was to promote the spirit of the textile city and support the vocal for local scheme.
The saree walkathon was organised by SMC and Surat Smart City Development Limited in collaboration with the ‘Fit India Movement’ at the Surat city police parade ground.
More than 15,000 women participated in this event including Minister of Railways & Textiles Darshanaben Jardosh, Dr. Sandhya Purecha, Mayor Hemaliben Boghawala and Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal.
IPS officer and DCP, Headquarters Ms. Saroj Kumari also participated in the event and shared beautiful pictures on her social media. In the walkathon, the women could be seen wearing handlooms from the state.
The event was the first in a series of initiatives designed to empower and showcase women of Surat. Starting from the Police parade ground, the participants walked via Parle Point and returned to the pavilion. Women from all states participated wearing sarees from their respective regions.
