IFS officer Parveen Kaswan recently shared a heartfelt story about a baby elephant rescued after its mother died. Mr. Kaswan posted a picture of the young elephant, now in temporary quarantine and under the care of veterinarians at the National Parks’ central camp. His post highlighted the team’s efforts to keep the calf safe and healthy. He wrote on his social media account X, “Lost her mother. She is shifted here yesterday only. Kept in temporary quarantine and under veterinarian’s observation. Hope kiddo will do good in our National Parks central camp.”

The post has received over 34,000 views and numerous reactions.

One social media user asked, “Can’t she stay with the herd if she was part of one? Elephants have strong social bonds, and a caring cow might take over motherly responsibilities.”

Mr. Kaswan replied, “She can’t. Her mother was alone and has died. We make decisions based on all factors.”

Another user wrote, “Please allot a well experienced mahout to handle the calf and please be so strict and not allow any visitors near the calf except for the carers. We all knew that baby elephants are so fragile and easily susceptible to infections. Take good care of the little one.”
