IAS Supriya Sahu took to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight the achievement, emphasizing the importance of protecting Indian grey wolves, a species often overshadowed by larger predators like tigers and lions.

She noted that habitat loss and human-wildlife conflicts have endangered these keystone predators, making protected areas crucial for their survival. Established in 2021, the 332-hectare sanctuary, consisting of scrub forests, hills, and caves, has provided a safe habitat for wolves to thrive.
Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre, while announcing the birth of the pups, credited the Karnataka Forest Department’s enhanced safety measures for the successful conservation of Indian wolves.
The Bankapur Wolf Sanctuary declared as Karnataka’s first Wolf Wildlife Sanctuary at the 15th Wildlife Board meeting, is home to diverse species, including leopards, peacocks, blackbucks, foxes, hares, and porcupines. This development underscores the need for expanding protected areas to safeguard endangered and threatened species.
