Indian Forest Service officer Sandeep Tripathi has shared a video on social media platform X about gaurs being translocated from Kanha to Sanjay-Dubri National Park. This is being done under a gaur reintroduction program in the Sanjay-Dubri Park, which used to be a natural habitat for gaurs once upon a time but, over time, the animals completely disappeared from the region.
Hence, it was decided by the forest department to reintroduce gaurs from the Kanha NP, where the animals are in plenty, to the Sanjay NP. It is heartening to know that all the gaurs which have been translocated so far have adjusted well in their new home.
Here is the officer’s post:
Kudos!!!

Under Gaur reintroduction in @SanjayDubriNP 6 gaurs were translocation from Kanha on 8th-9th April using the chemical immobilisatio. Since last year, 34 Gaur have been sent from Kanha, and they are surviving well and have given birth to calves.
