Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced that Naxalism is nearing its end in the state, with more than 2,000 Naxalites surrendering in the past two years. Speaking at the Tribal Pride Day celebration in Jagdalpur, held to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda, he said that the government’s systematic counter-insurgency approach is producing significant results.
Mr. Sai added that Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah have committed to eliminating Naxalism across India by March 31, 2026, marking a decisive national goal.
Strong Rehabilitation Policy Fuels Large-Scale Surrenders
The Chief Minister credited the surge in surrenders to an “effective surrender and rehabilitation policy” implemented since the BJP assumed power in December 2023. “Naxalism is breathing its last. Cadres are surrendering in large numbers, and our rehabilitation initiatives are helping them rejoin mainstream society,” he said.
Bastar on a Fast Track to Development Under Niyada Nellanar Scheme
Highlighting the government’s developmental commitment, Mr. Sai said the Niyada Nellanar scheme has transformed 327 villages in Bastar by expanding essential infrastructure such as:
• Road connectivity
• Electricity and drinking water supply
• Schools and healthcare centres
• Ration distribution facilities
• Mobile connectivity and telecommunication networks
He emphasized that such development work is strengthening trust among tribal communities and helping them distance themselves from Naxal influence.
Tourism in Bastar Recognised as an Industry
Under Chhattisgarh’s new industrial policy, tourism in Bastar has officially been granted the status of an industry. Mr. Sai said this move will allow the region’s natural beauty, culture and heritage to become major engines of employment and growth.
Record Participation in Bastar Olympics and Cultural Revival
The Chief Minister shared that the Bastar Olympics, a major sports and cultural initiative, saw participation from 1.65 lakh people last year, which increased to 3 lakh this year. He also confirmed that the Bastar Pandum Festival will return, reflecting rising enthusiasm among residents eager to join the developmental mainstream.
A Unified Celebration of Tribal Pride Across the State
Mr. Sai said that Tribal Pride Day is being celebrated across every district with the active participation of ministers, MPs, MLAs and local representatives. The state-level closing ceremony will be held on November 20 in Ambikapur (Surguja district), where President Ms. Draupadi Murmu will be the chief guest.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the people of Bastar desire peace, progress and prosperity, and the government is committed to meeting these aspirations through sustained development and security measures.
