Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah began a three-day visit to Gujarat from December 5 to 7, marking one of the state’s largest recent development-focused tours. Over these three days, he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth Rs. 1,506 crore across Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

These initiatives span infrastructure, housing, civic amenities, sports facilities, education, and cooperative development, aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens across urban and rural areas.

More Than 20 Mega Events Across Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar

Mr. Shah’s itinerary includes more than 20 major public events. Key attractions include the renovation of Vastrapur Lake, launch of the Ahmedabad Shopping Festival 2025, inauguration of housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and participation in the Pramukh Varani Amrut Mahotsav at the Sabarmati Riverfront.

Vastrapur Lake Reopens with New Civic Facilities

On December 7, Mr. Shah will inaugurate the fully renovated Vastrapur Lake in Ahmedabad, developed at a cost of Rs. 10 crore. According to AMC Standing Committee Chairman Mr. Devang Dani, the Union Minister will also open new civic amenities at eight locations across the city.

These include a mini sports complex near Gota Devnagar and several public-use facilities that aim to strengthen urban infrastructure. Mr. Shah will also address a public gathering to highlight the government’s commitment to citizen-first development.

Major Boost to Housing: Over 1,300 Homes Inaugurated

During the visit, Mr. Shah will inaugurate 861 houses in Thaltej and 509 houses in Vasana under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

He will also launch the inauguration and housing lottery for slum redevelopment units at Nat Na Chhapra in Naranpura. These steps aim to expand affordable housing and improve living conditions in vulnerable settlements.

New Gardens, Sports Complexes and Cultural Events

The Union Minister will also open new recreational and sports infrastructure, including the Electrotherm Garden in Bopal and a Sports Activity Center under Ranip Balolnagar.

He will participate in the Swadeshi Utsav at GMDC Ground and attend the closing ceremony of NABARD’s Earth Summit 2025 in Gandhinagar.

Shah is also scheduled to meet irrigation department officials to discuss interlinking of lakes in Gandhinagar—an initiative aimed at water security and urban resilience.

Shopping Festival, Education and Health Infrastructure Launches

On December 5 evening, Mr. Shah will inaugurate the Ahmedabad Shopping Festival 2025 at Sindhu Bhavan Road. Additional launches include the PNG gas line, a new health building, and new primary and girls’ schools near Moti Adaraj in Gandhinagar.

These projects underline the government’s attention to education, healthcare and community welfare.

Dairy and Agro Development Activities in Banaskantha

On December 6, Mr. Shah will travel to Vav and Tharad in Banaskantha district. He will lay the foundation stone for Banas Dairy’s Bio-CNG and Powder Plant at Sanadar and visit the district’s potato processing facility.

He will also review the soil testing lab, admin block radio station and embryo transplant lab virtually. In Lakhani, he will visit the newly built Bio-CNG and fertilizer plant and interact with women milk producers.

Further visits to honey, oil and flour plants reflect the government’s push for cooperative farming, agro-industrial expansion and women’s empowerment in dairy-led rural economies.

Cultural Programmes and Public Outreach on December 7

Mr. Shah will return to Ahmedabad on December 7 to inaugurate additional civic projects in Gota Devnagar and address a public gathering expected to draw around 10,000 people.

Later, he will release the Gujarati edition of the book Ae Chunotiya Muje Pasand Hai, based on the life of Uttar Pradesh Governor Ms. Anandiben Patel. The event will be held at the Shakti Convention Center near Vaishnodevi Circle.

In the evening, he will attend the Pramukh Varani Amrut Mahotsav organised by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha at the Sabarmati Riverfront.

A Comprehensive Development Agenda for Gujarat

Across three days, Mr. Shah’s engagements cover urban modernization, rural empowerment, cooperative growth, cultural promotion, educational expansion and enhanced civic infrastructure. The projects collectively reflect a holistic model of development designed to uplift both metropolitan and district-level communities in Gujarat.
