Jharkhand Chief Minister Mr. Hemant Soren on Wednesday announced a major initiative to support families of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. The state government plans to set up a high-quality, fully free residential school dedicated to the children of fallen police officers.
Speaking at a condolence and compensation event in Ranchi, Mr. Soren revealed that a four-acre land parcel has been earmarked at the Jharkhand Jaguar campus in Dhurwa for the project.
“This school will match the standards of the best private institutions and offer free, quality education,” Mr. Soren stated.
A Bureaucratic Collaboration for Welfare-Driven Education
The Jharkhand Police Department and the Education Department are working closely to finalize the modalities, curriculum, and management structure of the institution. According to Mr. Soren, the school will be operated under the police department’s supervision to ensure consistent quality and mission-aligned governance.
This initiative reflects a broader shift in public administration where welfare-oriented governance and institutional support for frontline personnel are becoming state priorities.
Families of Slain Policemen Receive Compensation
During the same event, families of two martyred constables, Mr. Sunil Kumar Ram and Mr. Santan Kumar Mehta—who were killed in an anti-Maoist operation in Palamu—received Rs. 1.10 crore each as ex-gratia compensation.
The announcement underlined the state’s commitment to the sacrifice of security forces and the promise of institutional care for their families.
Exclusive Police Hospital Also in the Pipeline
Mr. Soren also mentioned that the government is planning a dedicated hospital for Jharkhand Police personnel, which will offer healthcare services tailored to the unique occupational risks and needs of the force.
This forms part of a larger welfare infrastructure the state is building to safeguard and support police families.
A New Chapter in Police Welfare and Public Sector Education
By announcing a school and a hospital exclusively for police personnel and their families, the Jharkhand government is not only providing immediate relief but laying the groundwork for long-term, structural support systems. The move is expected to set a benchmark for other states, combining education reform with human-centric governance.
