In a significant step towards urban renewal and environmental sustainability in Uttar Pradesh, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has launched a city-wide initiative to revamp old parks and develop new green spaces. Backed by a budget of Rs. 150 crore, the project will transform approximately 50 parks across Lucknow, blending modern infrastructure with ecological preservation to provide safe, beautiful, and accessible recreational spaces for citizens.
Upgrading Old Parks with Modern Amenities and Green Cover
Many of Lucknow’s older parks have suffered from neglect, lacking even basic amenities. As part of the new initiative, these parks will be upgraded with dedicated children’s play zones, jogging and walking tracks, new seating arrangements, colorful fountains, upgraded lighting, drinking water facilities, and clean public toilets. Tree plantation and landscaping will be carried out extensively to promote greenery and reduce urban heat effects.
New Parks for a Growing City: Focus on Health and Design
The LDA will also develop several new parks in underserved areas of the city, drawing inspiration from successful projects like Janeshwar Mishra Park and Gomti Riverfront Park. These new green spaces will feature modern, sustainable designs incorporating eco-friendly technologies and infrastructure such as open gyms, smart lighting, and rainwater harvesting systems. This move is expected to further encourage residents toward healthier, outdoor lifestyles.
Special Projects: Urmila Forest Park and Saumitra Forest Phase 2
Alongside city parks, large-scale eco-tourism and biodiversity spaces are also in the works. The Urmila Forest Park, being developed on the banks of the Kukrail River near Bhikhampur, is a flagship project aimed at creating a lush, forest-like urban escape. Saumitra Forest Phase 2 will soon follow, with fertilization work already in progress. These spaces will not only contribute to the city’s biodiversity but also become destinations for nature lovers and tourists.
Inclusive Spaces for All Age Groups and Community Events
LDA Vice-Chairman Mr. Prathamesh Kumar emphasized that the project’s design will cater to all demographics — with play zones for children, open gyms for youth, peaceful corners for senior citizens, and even small open-air stages for cultural events. This people-centric planning aims to enhance community engagement while beautifying public infrastructure.
Tender Process to Begin Soon for Timely Execution
Preparations are in full swing, with detailed plans already finalized. Mr. Prathamesh Kumar confirmed that the tendering process will commence shortly to ensure timely execution of the development works. Once complete, these parks are expected to significantly enhance Lucknow’s urban environment and boost local tourism by offering visually appealing, functional, and inclusive spaces for public use.
Public Welcomes the Initiative with Enthusiasm
The announcement has been met with excitement by city residents. With 50 parks set for transformation, locals are looking forward to cleaner, greener, and safer recreational options for families and individuals alike. The initiative is expected to redefine public spaces in Lucknow and contribute to a more sustainable urban future.
