New Delhi: India coal production FY 2025–26 has reached a historic milestone, marking a major achievement in the country’s energy sector

According to official data released by the Ministry of Coal, production and dispatch from captive and commercial mines crossed the 200 million tonnes (MT) mark for the first time. 

This significant growth highlights India’s increasing energy capacity, improved mining efficiency, and stronger logistics network, supporting the nation’s rising power demand and industrial growth.

Details of India Coal Production FY 2025–26

The Ministry of Coal reported that as of March 31, 2026:

  • Total coal production reached 210.46 MT
  • Year-on-year growth stood at 10.22%
  • Coal dispatch touched 204.61 MT
  • Dispatch growth increased by 7.35%

These numbers are the highest ever recorded for captive and commercial coal mines in India.

This growth shows better operational performance, faster transportation, and increased mining capacity across the country.

New Coal Blocks Operational

  • 12 new coal blocks became operational in FY 2025–26
  • Added over 86 MT annual production capacity

  • 7 new mines started production within the same year
