Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath, during a review of Meerut, Kanpur, and Mathura-Vrindavan’s urban growth, emphasized that development should not focus solely on construction. He directed officials to maintain a balance between local identity, cultural heritage, and modern amenities. Implementation will follow a phased approach, ensuring timely completion and quality standards.
Comprehensive Integrated Development Model
Following the models of Ayodhya, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Prayagraj, the state is now implementing an integrated development approach in these three cities. A total of 478 projects have been identified—111 in Meerut, 109 in Kanpur, and 258 in Mathura-Vrindavan—categorized into short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans. In the first phase, 38 priority projects for 2025-26 will focus on traffic improvements, multi-level parking, green spaces, road and pavement upgrades, underground power lines, water management, and tourism infrastructure enhancements.
Meerut: Traffic and Infrastructure Modernization
The Meerut plan prioritizes easing traffic congestion. Mr. Adityanath suggested developing the Bijli Bamba Bypass under a public-private partnership (PPP) similar to the Lucknow Green Corridor. Proposals include road widening from Hapur Adda to Gandhi Ashram, Eastern Kutchery Road improvements, key junction redevelopment, Qayyum Nagar Park and Sanjay Van beautification, smart road construction, University Road redevelopment, and a water recycling system connecting Shatabdi Nagar STP to Mohkampur Industrial Area.
Kanpur: Legacy Meets Modernity
Kanpur’s development, themed “Rooted in Legacy, Rising to Tomorrow,” aims to connect modern transportation, public transit, and green infrastructure while maintaining the city’s industrial identity. Key projects include Mainavati Marg widening, multi-level parking, Green Park area urban design improvements, City Forest and Botanical Garden in Maqsoodabad, VIP Road enhancements, riverfront linkages, Greenfield corridor development, and a proposed Greater Kanpur expansion area.
Mathura-Vrindavan: Vision 2030 for Religious Tourism
The Mathura-Vrindavan plan focuses on religious tourism, traveler amenities, and cultural preservation under “Vision 2030.” Projects include street facade upgrades, multi-level parking, bus parking, city entrance beautification, new road construction, Barsana-Govardhan-Radhakund corridor improvements, modern facilities on Parikrama Marg, and enhanced signage and lighting from city limits to religious sites.
Emphasis on Private Investment and Innovation
The Chief Minister urged officials to prioritize innovation, modern management, and private sector participation via PPP and revenue-sharing models. Urban development goals include improved traffic flow, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and greener, cleaner cities. Mr. Adityanath assured that additional budgets will be made available where required to ensure successful implementation.
