New Delhi: NITI Aayog has announced the formation of a high-level Critical & Strategic Minerals Committee to accelerate India’s efforts in identifying, assessing, and developing critical mineral resources. These minerals are essential for the country’s energy transition, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and strategic sectors, making the initiative a key step toward strengthening national resource security.

Objective and Strategic Importance

The newly constituted committee aims to streamline India’s approach toward critical and strategic minerals, ensuring a systematic evaluation of domestic resources. This move comes in the wake of the Ministry of Mines’ recognition of IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, as a Centre of Excellence under the National Critical Mineral Mission. The committee will focus on mapping resources, assessing viability, and recommending strategies to support India’s long-term energy and industrial objectives.
