Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Pithoragarh on Friday, inaugurating the historic Jauljibi Fair and emphasizing the state’s cultural heritage and regional development. The fair, held at the confluence of the Kali and Gauri rivers, serves as a major trade and cultural hub, attracting traders and visitors from across India, Nepal, and Tibet.

Jauljibi Fair: A Cultural and Economic Milestone

The Jauljibi Fair, one of the largest trade fairs in the Kumaon region, highlights Uttarakhand’s vibrant cultural traditions while promoting local commerce. Traders sell traditional clothing, woolen textiles, herbs, and handicrafts, benefiting both Indian and Nepali merchants. Mr. Dhami emphasized that events like this strengthen cross-border cultural ties and boost the local economy.

Connecting with Ancestral Roots in Tundi-Baramon

Following the fair inauguration, Chief Minister Dhami visited his ancestral village, Tundi-Baramon, where he walked along village trails holding his mother’s hand and interacted with residents. Sharing the moment on social media, he described the village as representing his “roots, culture, and identity.” The visit highlighted the Chief Minister’s personal connection to local communities and underscored his commitment to rural development.

Spiritual Visit to Brahmachari Temple

During his visit, CM Dhami offered prayers at the Brahmachari Temple in his ancestral village. The Chief Minister attended primary school in Tundi-Baramon until the third grade before his family moved to Khatima. Villagers welcomed him warmly, and the visit served as both an emotional and cultural engagement with the local population.

Promoting Regional Tourism and Trade

The Jauljibi Fair continues to attract large crowds, boosting commerce in traditional crafts, woolens, and herbal products. Mr. Dhami’s visit also reflects the state government’s focus on promoting tourism and supporting local traders while preserving Uttarakhand’s rich cultural heritage. During his two-day visit to Kumaon, the Chief Minister is expected to announce new development projects aimed at improving infrastructure, trade, and rural livelihoods in the region.
