West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced that her government has generated over two crore jobs during the Trinamool Congress’ 14-year tenure. Speaking on the state government’s performance, she highlighted major development initiatives and social welfare achievements.
Ms. Banerjee emphasized that West Bengal has consistently led the nation in MGNREGA implementation, rural housing, and village road construction, topping the charts four times in a row. She added that these accomplishments came despite delays in funding from the Central Government.
Robust Social Welfare Programs Continue Despite Centre’s Delays
The Chief Minister underscored her administration’s commitment to social welfare, noting that the state spent 1 lakh crore on the Khadya Sathi food security program, benefiting nine crore people. Additionally, 1,717 crore was allocated to the Duare Ration scheme, which reached seven crore residents.
These initiatives reflect the government’s continued focus on ensuring food security, even when central assistance was withheld. Ms. Banerjee stressed that West Bengal prioritized people’s welfare over bureaucratic delays, maintaining momentum in development projects across the state.
Significant Investments in Health and Women’s Empowerment
Over the last 14 years, West Bengal has increased health sector budget allocation sixfold, making the state a benchmark for other regions. Ms. Banerjee also highlighted that more than 2.2 crore women currently benefit from the Lakshmir Bhandar monthly assistance program.
In addition, over 99 lakh families gained access to safe drinking water during her tenure, showcasing comprehensive development in both urban and rural areas.
Political Commentary on Opposition Policies
Criticizing the NDA, Ms. Banerjee claimed that while they distributed 10,000 in Bihar before Assembly elections, post-election actions included mobilizing bulldozers against citizens. Her remarks underscored the contrast between her government’s people-centric approach and the opposition’s policies.
West Bengal Emerges as a Model State
Summing up, Ms. Banerjee stated that West Bengal has set a benchmark for other states through consistent development, social welfare, and employment creation. Her government’s initiatives have not only transformed the state’s infrastructure and health sectors but also strengthened food security and women’s empowerment programs.
