On Friday 24th September, IPS Officer Sanjay Pandey of the 1986 batch, who is currently the Director-General of Police(DGP) of Maharashtra said that the Maharashtra government has decided to reduce the office hours of police personnel from 12 hours to eight hours. In the coming week, this rule shall be implemented across the state in a phased manner.

Women Cops complained about their long work hours and how it affects their personal life and approached DGP Sanjay Pandey saying their duty hours often extended beyond 12 hours. The DGP after discussing this issue with other senior officials had decided to reduce the office hours of the women cops.

The timing will be reduced but there will be exceptions during festivals or other events. During such situations, the officers in charge can increase the number of duty hours with permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Police or another senior official.
