An IAS officer, who is also a former ISRO scientist, has started his own YouTube channel, where he teaches science subjects to students in Hindi medium. He is 2010-batch IAS officer Prabhjot Singh and through his channel, Prabhjot Singh IAS PCM Concepts Motivational Talk, he teaches Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to students of class 11 and 12 in Hindi.

Mr. Singh, who is the Managing Director of National Health Mission in Haryana, says that he didn’t want language to be a hurdle for the students. Therefore, he chose Hindi as the medium to ensure a wider reach.

LANGUAGE SHOULD NOT BE BARRIER

“I studied at a Punjabi-medium school in Ludhiana, so I wanted a platform where the students can be taught science in an easy language,” Mr. Singh told media.

He said that his transition from class 10 to 11 was difficult as he went to an English medium school to study science. He says that he spent at least four to five months in finding new words of English in the dictionary.

“But I was fortunate enough as there were good teachers of physics, chemistry and mathematics at Ludhiana’s SCD Government College. Still, I saw a few students who could not pick up in the science stream there. So, I always realised that language should not be a barrier in pursuing science stream.”

VIDEO INTERVIEWS

Mr. Singh has uploaded 40 videos in the last three months. Through these videos, he teaches students about different topics. Apart from this, he also interviews people from different walks of life. He has interviewed two IAS officers, an author, journalist, doctor, ISRO scientist and sports coach to motivate and inspire the students through their stories and journeys. His channel currently has 565 subscribers.

PUNJABI LITERATURE AS OPTIONAL

When appearing for UPSC, Mr. Singh had initially chosen Physics and  Chemistry as optional, with which he cleared the written exam twice and reached till the interview round. He said that he has special affinity for science subjects. However, he opted for Punjabi Literature as his optional subject the third time round and managed to crack the prestigious and difficult examination of UPSC, CSE.

HELPING HINDI MEDIUM STUDENTS

Mr. Singh, who had recently posted a link of notes, previous year papers and guidance on Punjabi Literature as an optional on his Twitter handle, told media, “I wanted to do something like this when I was Deputy Commissioner (Sirsa), too. That time, I had tried a concept like Bihar’s popular Super 30 coaching programme founded by Anand Kumar, the mathematics teacher. But it could not materialise because of technical hurdles.”

Talking about  a government initiative in this regard, he said that the Haryana government has also started a similar initiative, Super 100. However, he wanted to do something on his own for the students so that they could learn these subjects in an easy language and do not have to think twice before opting for the science stream.
