For countless aspirants, the journey to becoming a civil servant officer is formidable, marked by rigorous preparation and fierce competition. For individuals like Ajit Singh Khadda, who studied entirely in Hindi medium, the challenges can be even more pronounced. Often faced with the perception that English medium students hold a distinct advantage in the Civil Services Examination (CSE), Ajit not only navigated a demanding syllabus but also confronted stereotypes that questioned his abilities. However, fueled by unwavering determination and a strategic mindset, he transformed these obstacles into stepping stones, ultimately achieving remarkable success in the CSE of 2023 and fulfilling his dream of serving his country as an IPS officer.

Indian Masterminds had the privilege of interacting with Mr. Khadda to delve deeper into his inspiring journey.

Overcoming Setbacks

Ajit completed his undergraduate studies at Kirorimal College, Delhi University, followed by a postgraduate degree in Hindi Litrature from IGNOU. His journey, however, was not without obstacles. In his first attempt at the CSE in 2021, he narrowly missed the preliminary cut-off by just a few points. The following year, he faced another setback, struggling with the CSAT paper. Each disappointment weighed heavily, yet Ajit refused to let failure define him.

A Strategic Approach

Instead of succumbing to discouragement, Ajit embraced his setbacks as valuable lessons. Recognizing the critical importance of the CSAT, he enrolled in a crash course to enhance his skills for his third attempt in 2023. “Do not take the CSAT paper lightly at all,” he advised fellow aspirants, embodying the resilience he had developed through his experiences.

The Sweet Taste of Success

Ajit’s hard work paid off when he secured an impressive All India Rank of 563, earning him a place in the IPS. He credited his success to collaborative preparation, stating, “We practiced for the interview together, which significantly helped us handle the pressure.” These joint sessions not only bolstered his confidence but also honed his interview skills, proving invaluable in his preparation.

Busting Myths About Medium Discrimination

Ajit’s journey also challenged prevailing myths about medium discrimination in the UPSC exams. Having prepared entirely in Hindi, he firmly believed that the supposed advantages of English medium students were exaggerated. “The discrimination based on medium is not as prevalent as people think,” he asserted, dispelling misconceptions and highlighting that dedication knows no language barriers.

The Power of Collaborative Preparation

In the UPSC exam, having a supportive group can make all the difference. Ajit Khadda spent a transformative year in Delhi studying with three close friends, and their collective effort proved invaluable. By recognizing each other’s strengths and weaknesses, they exchanged insights that greatly enriched their preparation.

In an inspiring achievement, all four of them cleared the UPSC 2023 exam together. Ajit noted, “We prepared for the interview together, which helped us handle the pressure. Our joint practice sessions, including mock interviews, were particularly beneficial.” This camaraderie not only fostered accountability but also built the confidence needed to tackle the exam’s challenges.

A Beacon of Inspiration

Ajit Singh Khadda’s journey serves as a powerful testament to the belief that determination and hard work can turn dreams into reality. His story inspires countless others to pursue their aspirations, proving that overcoming adversity is not only possible but can lead to remarkable success.
