IPS Anjana Krishna: From Kerala Roots to Standing Tall Against Ajit Pawar in Solapur

Indian Masterminds Stories

IPS Anjana Krishna V.S., a 2023-batch officer from Kerala, has become a national name for her integrity and fearless policing. Currently serving as SDPO in Karmala, Solapur, she first drew attention after a viral video showed her firmly standing her ground during a phone call allegedly from Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar while cracking down on illegal soil excavation. From a modest family background to cracking UPSC on her fourth attempt, her story is one of resilience, courage, and inspiration.

Early Life and Family Background

IPS Anjana Krishna V.S. hails from Vilavoorkal village in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Born into a modest household, she grew up watching her parents work hard to support the family. Her father, V.S. Biju, runs a small cloth shop, while her mother, L. Seena, is a typist at the Vanchiyoor court. Their humble background did not deter Anjana from dreaming big.

Education and UPSC Journey

Anjana completed her schooling at St. Mary’s Central School, Poojappura, and later pursued a B.Sc. in Mathematics from NSS College for Women, Neeramankara. She chose Malayalam Literature as her optional subject for the Civil Services Examination.

Her UPSC journey was not easy – after facing failure in her first three attempts, she cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2022 with an All India Rank of 355, earning her place in the 2022 batch of the Indian Police Service. Before this success, she also cleared the RRB Clerk exam, but chose to wait for UPSC results. To gain perspective, she interned with a Malayalam daily and later enrolled in a criminology postgraduate program via IGNOU.

Career in Police Service

Anjana Krishna is currently posted as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Karmala, Solapur district, Maharashtra. Known for her discipline and strong moral compass, she quickly earned respect in her posting for her commitment to upholding law and order.

The Ajit Pawar Controversy

On August 31, 2025, Anjana led an operation against illegal soil excavation in Kurdu village, Solapur. During the raid, a local worker handed her a phone call allegedly from Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, directing her to stop the action. Calm and unshaken, Anjana politely asked him to call her on her official number for verification. The video of this exchange went viral, sparking debates on the misuse of political influence and the autonomy of police officers.

A subsequent district inquiry backed her actions, confirming that the excavation was indeed illegal. While political pushback followed, including demands to review her UPSC credentials, the public widely lauded her integrity.

Symbol of Courage and Inspiration

Today, IPS Anjana Krishna stands as an example of grit, honesty, and fearless policing. From a typist’s cottage in Kerala to the corridors of power in Maharashtra, her journey reflects the true spirit of public service. For thousands of UPSC aspirants and young Indians, her story proves that persistence and integrity can overcome even the toughest challenges.
