Coming from a Punjabi Marwari family, marriage was the last thing on Promila Gupta’s wish list. For a business family, where women never looked beyond their kitchen and households, she wanted to chart her own path, and a government job seemed like a perfect fit. In such a scenario, selection in UPSC CSE was like plucking stars from the sky. But she was determined to study and make it big. And she made the famous quote from Rhonda Byrne’s book The Secret come true – if you wish for something very hard, the entire universe conspires to make it happen. She spoke to Indian Masterminds on all such issues. Please click on the following link to watch her very enlightening interview…
Her UPSC journey was as fascinating as her entire life. She was selected in the UPSC – not once but twice – first for Indian Defence Estates Services (IDES) and then for Indian Railways Traffic Services (IRTS). She got married to an IRS (C&E) officer and has a successful, happy and contended life. Yet, she was feeling something amiss. She wanted something more from the life.
She got that opportunity during the Covid-induced lockdown. At a time when the entire world had shut itself behind the safety of their homes, Promila was in the field every day but she escaped the infection. This was the time when she worked on her spirituality. So much so that now she doesn’t feel the need for meditation. “I feel I am in a state of meditation all the time”, she said.
She has reached a stage where all her wishes are fulfilled automatically. “I wanted to see the world. The God got me posted in a place where I am roaming around the world officially. I have been to seven countries in past seven months and am scheduled to visit four more including USA and UK in next four months”, she told Indian Masterminds.
