Indian Masterminds Stories

The story of a young Anshul Gupta from Indore clearing one of the toughest competitive exams in the country is a good example of how hard work can overcome all obstacles. His journey into IAS proves that there is no substitute to hard work when it comes to reaching your goals.

EARLY LIFE

Mr. Anshul Gupta did his Bachelors & Masters of Technology from IIT Kharagpur in 2006 and, later, he joined one of the best B-Schools in the country, IIM Bangalore, to complete his MBA in Public Policy Finance in 2007.
While doing his MTech from IIT Kharagpur, he dreamt of becoming an IAS officer and serving the nation from a top administrative position. Since then, he started preparing for UPSC Civil Services Exam. After the completion of his MBA, he worked for many multinational companies like Wipro, L&T, Edelweiss Capital, Golden Sachs and Accenture.

IAS DREAM

While discharging his professional duties, he kept on preparing for his dream job, simultaneously. He cracked the UPSC Exam in 2012 and became an IPS officer, but his dream of becoming an IAS was yet to be fulfilled.

To achieve this dream, he continued preparing hard, while stepping into his new role as an IPS officer. This time, he had a larger responsibility on his shoulders, as his first posting was as Additional SP, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. After that, he was transferred and posted as SP, Aligarh. He also played a key role in tackling cybercrimes and tracked down and busted many cyber rackets operating out of Jamtara.
Jamtara is known as the phishing capital of the country, and most of the cybercrime cases in India are executed from there.

Finally, in the year 2016, his years of hard work and dedication paid off as he cleared the UPSC exam again to become an IAS this time. On top of that, he was allotted his home cadre, Madhya Pradesh, which was an icing on the cake.

Mr Anshul Gupta became an IAS in his fourth attempt and got 18th rank. According to him, the credit goes to his family who supported him throughout his journey and kept his morale high.

Since then, Mr. Gupta has served in various departments of the state government. He has offered his services as CMO, SDM, and Assistant Commissioner in the Tribal Development Department of the Madhya Pradesh government. He was also the CEO of Jabalpur Smart City.

After that, he went on deputation as Assistant Secretary to the Union Ministry of Roads and Transport. In 2018 he was repatriated and posted as SDM in Kukshi, Dhar District and was also posted as SDM Mhow in Indore. He also served as the CEO of Zilla Panchayat, Umaria District. Currently, he is serving as Municipal Corporation Commissioner of Ujjain.

Mr. Gupta’s relentless chase of his dream should inspire all to not lose sight of their goal in the middle of a race. His story proves that success always comes to those who are willing to toil hard for it.
